Back from Ocean Grove and the beach with two downpours but, what the hell. Rode the bikes and didn't end up in Jersey Shore Medical Ctr. like Shelley Sundstein. Oh Yeah Dave.....Clancy's Tavern was outstanding. Hey!! You get what you asked for....I enjoyed the Reggae version of IDWGH...it was spontaneous and enjoyable. Johnny played all my fave's right off the bat. Maybe Johnny needed the tee ball stand to hit a dinger. It was great to meet Gary from LI...finally. It was great to see the usual suspects like Gman, Dennis, Dave and Janice, Miss October, Phyllis, Kathleen, Linda T and Matt and plenty of others that I didn't get a chance to talk to. The new material sounded great during the soundcheck and during the show.
JK thought he was George Foster in Riverfront Stadium. Show was spacked as usual but, I had my seat and needed it badly. Pony security personnel were very gracious and allowed me into the Meet and Greet. Had a Blast!!!!!!!!!!

An absolute great day- beautiful weather-meeting up with Kev-Daver- Cathy-Janice sharing VIP seating (picnic tables) and Gary from LI (Can you say Massapequa?) but not Massapequa. Lost touch as I went to front row and when I looked back it was a mob scene. The show was tremendous with SS obviously taking the time to master classic songs from "The Jukes" that were played perfectly and with the hard edged emotion of days gone by and a great "Long Distance" early in the set.
Being in front row can be fun but requires some work and patience too(guess I got that still as I didnt slug or get into it with anyone- one guy could have used it but I aint gettin tossed because some big tall whiny snob was upset that there were people bumping "in his family space and dripping beer on his Jimmy Choos" but essentially he was just ignored and we continued to party. Thanks to my son Dennis for his "beer runs" to keep the old man standing upright.
The new stage was monstrous and looked great- new set up was also much better and fan friendlier- but one thing was playing "eiineey- meany -miney - mo with trying to get a spot into new Porto farm.
The added carnival games with some real hotties manning (is that "babe-ing) the barker chores were nice to look at but the games are lame and caused a distraction to SS and someone mentioned he made a few comments about the Spyro-Gyra game and it was shut down.
One thing that was not perfect to us anyway was the "Reggae" rendition of IDWTGH- while it was different-please SS when you have a classic (well thats basically the whole show) but when you have that anthem-please stick to standard performance-again thats from our side of peanut gallery- others liked it just as well.
But to me it was the heart thumping golden performances of Im So Anxious and All I Want Is Everything that were the best and you got every word and beat- recapturing a time from your youth and ours for those moments!
Thanks for a GREAT evening Jukes and Jukes friends and special thanks to the City Of Asbury Park who I was wrong about-this place was alive and safe and I spent the after show hours walking the boardwalk that was alive and even sitting alone ( well maybe a few "Morro Castle" friends were with me) in an empty-spooky- yet hauntingly safe feeling Convention Hall at about 12.
Nobody bothered anyone and it was as safe and beautiful a boardwalk night as can be.
The boardwalk is making huge strides and just needs some more "entertainment"- Ok heres one SS would agree to- put "Spyro-Gyra- where it belongs-out there!
Thanks to all and the weather Gods for a most wonderful and exciting evening.
Oh yeah anyone know who the absolutely stunning blonde was sitting onstage next to the band was ? I mean Stunning and maybe SS`s?

Gotta say you guys put on yet again another great performance last night. Haha I'm very sorry Southside for yelling Vertigo and Trash It Up the whole time, and especially sorry I yelled Reggae before I Don't Want To Go Home. I took a bunch of pictures and will definately share them with everyone when I get an address for where I post them. Definately one of the best setlist's and really enjoyed your first encore tune from Grapefruit Moon. Still have your Hearts of Stone vinyl framed on my wall from a year ago today (The 30th Anniversary of the album). Too bad I was born in 1991 and didn't get to see you guys start, or see Bruce fill in for you when you got sick haha. Thanks for being such a great band and being the true sound of the Jersey Shore

It is in the 80's the sky looks good --bright with some clouds. Some regulars have set up camp in front of the Pony. New stage is awesome.
Last night Bobby played at the Axelrod theatre in Deal. He did a wide variety of songs and featured several Roy Orbison numbers. Joining him on vocals was Ray Anderson.
On the front of the program it stated first annual. Hope so -- great day before activity to the Pony show.
ALSO: Bobby promised a new CD by October (yes of this year).

Looking pretty gloomy in Central Jersey at the moment the sky is dark and a downpour in imminent. We'll make the best of it anyway. What AP needs is a Chevys Tex -Mex ( go low to mid cost) not another high priced "snob-oria"- they keep thinking they are the new South Beach Miami when they arent even Seaside Heights yet.
Maybe I am wrong but they are way off target with what they are trying to become as opposed to just "coming back" from the "ruins".
Yes some great strides- but who do they think they are?
You cant play South Beach when you are more like Camden.

Hi there everyone! It may sound silly, but I have loved the song, "Future in your eyes" since I fell in love with 'Adventures in Babysitting' many moons ago. I have been trying to find it and purchase it through iTunes, but iTunes doesn't recognize the song at all. I would love to buy/download it soon because I am considering it as my first dance song with my fiance and want to have it on my playlist. Any info tracking the song down would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Bobby B info-interesting read
Bobby Bandiera appears tonight in a rare rock and roll concert at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center in Deal — just hours before taking the Stone Pony SummerStage with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes for their annual 4th of July show on Thursday.
In an interview that appeared several months back here in oRBit, Bobby Bandiera proved why he deserves to be called the Hardest Working Man in Shore Business, explaining the origin and continuing exploration of the series of conceptually themed concerts known as the Jersey Shore Rock ‘N Soul Revue.
Now that alone might be enough for most anybody to rest their laurels on, but since “rest” to Bandiera is nothing more a little line on a bar of music, that ain’t gonna happen. The original Cat on a Smooth Surface continues to seem everywhere at once — and in a million different musical contexts. For instance, as we post this he’s just come off the road with Bon Jovi as trusty tour guitarist, a role that the go-to guitarslinger has fulfilled for The Boss, The Bonj’ and many other musical legends.
About a day and a half after arriving back home, Bandiera and a custom-picked band will be taking the stage of the Axelrod Performing Arts Center (at the JCC of Monmouth in Deal) tonight, Wednesday July the first, for a rare rocking event that promises to mix some best-loved tunes from 1960s and 70s with some original Bandiera tunes. The 8pm show is preceded at 6:30 by a Rock ‘N Roll Summer Cocktail Party in the lobby of the Axelrod theatre, complete with mojitos and hors d’oeuvres catered by Stingers/656 Ocean in Long Branch.
But wait, there’s more — just twenty hours after the last note of the Axelrod show, Bandiera switches gears once more, as he reclaims his 24-year guitar gig with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes for what’s become a July 4 weekend “homecoming” tradition — a Thursday evening concert that inaugurates a new season on the outdoor Stone Pony SummerStage. This is to say nothing of his next project with the Rock ‘N Soul Revue, an August 8 Tribute to Trios that expands the core concept of the guitar/bass/drums axis in some fairly fascinating ways. We reckoned we’d ask him about all these things.
Of course, when Red Bank oRBit managed to get a bead on this perpetually moving target, he was out on tour with Bon Jovi. So what was he up to when we got him on the phone — sipping mint juleps at a four-star hotel poolside? Signing autographs for humbled heads of state? Spelunking depths of rockstar debauchery unseen since the classic days of Led Zeppelin?
“I’m walking around a mall in Milwaukee,” the family-guy rocker said over a background of shouting kids and shopping-center music. “This is what we do with our downtime.”
Read on, pilgrims…
RED BANK ORBIT: So how are things out on the road with Bon Jovi?
BOBBY BANDIERA: Pretty good; right now we’re in town to do the Milwaukee Summerfest — we also did an Awareness Project event, with Michelle Obama, in San Francisco. Jon offered to play it, and Schwarzenegger was there.
I’m curious as to how this show at the Axelrod came together. This would be the first time you’ve ever appeared there, correct?
I didn’t even know there was a theatre there! I never thought about looking into it, but they approached me about bringing something in — they said, we’ve been watching you, with the Jukes and with Bon Jovi.
The idea was for me to do a 60s style show, and work it off the angle of the shows I do at the Basie.
So what kind of material are we gonna hear at Wednesday’s show?
Beatles, Motown, things like “Mustang Sally” and “Midnight Hour.” Plus a few of my own. There are so many songs to choose from!
Seeing as to how you’re out on the road right now with Bon Jovi, how much time are you even leaving yourself to prepare for this thing?
Well, if all goes according to plan I should be getting back home sometime on Monday. The show’s on Wednesday, so that’s plenty of time (laughs)!
Then the next night it’s over to the Stone Pony for the annual Jukes 4th of July show, which is a whole ‘nother thing entirely. I have no idea how you do it, but would you say these hometown shows with the Jukes are a little more relaxed, a little looser than what you might bring out on the road?
We’ve been doing the 4th of July weekend shows for something like five, six years now, and they’re kind of a party atmosphere, kind of a jam situation. We’ve got the nine-piece band and we have it pretty well covered by this point.
The only thing we gotta watch out for is the weather. One time that we played the Pony, there were tornado warnings going on, bad storms coming through. They told us to be prepared to leave the stage at a moment’s notice. I said, moment’s notice my ass! I’m gettin’ out of here now!
Now we’re kind of getting ahead of ourselves here, but tell me about your next Rock ‘N Soul Revue show at the Count Basie — A Tribute to Trios?
It’s a show I’ve kind of had in the back of my head for a while — something that’s brand new as far as tribute shows go. We’ll be doing songs by Cream, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Police, The Who, Led Zeppelin — I’ve loved Zeppelin since I was a teenager and I’ve been wanting to take on some of these songs on stage.
Wait a minute though, some of the bands you’re naming were quartets…
Yeah, but, who gives a shit about the singer? (laughs) Really what we’re talking about is bands who had an instrumental core of guitar, bass and drums — so we can include bands like U2.
And you’re gonna be handling all the vocals and the guitar parts?
Oh no, this is gonna be a bigger show than what you first think. It’s not just three guys standing on stage. We have a bunch of guest singers coming in, and some extra musicians on some of the numbers — we’ll have a horn section too. I picked a few songs where I thought we’d try something different, like the Hendrix version of “Killing Floor” we’ll be doing with Paul Butterfield-style horns — as opposed to something like “Crosstown Traffic,” where there’s really not much you can do to enhance it. And then the Cream song “Strange Brew,” we’re putting a different spin on it. We’re gonna whoop it up a little bit.
So who do you have pitching in on vocals?
There’s Lisa Bouchelle — she’s our Robert Plant! We’re gonna do about six Zeppelin songs. Ray Anderson will be doing some Who songs — things like “My Wife” and “5:15,” where we can include the horns. Bob Burger will be doing some vocals, and Layonne Holmes will be doing the Police songs.
Really?! This show is shaping up to be something way different than I thought it was gonna be. But if you’re going to be emulating all these different guitar players, you’re probably gonna need to bring a whole lot of guitars.
Well, that’s a question I have to ask myself — do I really want to bring that many guitars? For the Hendrix songs you’ve got a Strat, Clapton has his Gibson, and The Edge switches guitars every three songs!
I’ve got about 95 guitars. My wife is not happy about it — she allotted me two rooms for my music. But you know it’s fun to have that arsenal.
You’re too much — you’ve gotta have at least twenty full-length shows in your head at any given time.
Hey, at the end of the day I’m playing music in the spirit of fun. Whether I’m doing something like “Mustang Sally” or “Come On Caroline” doesn’t matter. I’m still having fun playing music.
Tickets for tonight’s Bobby Bandiera concert at the JCC of Monmouth’s Axelrod Theatre — $25 for show only, or $40 for show plus 6:30pm Rock ‘N Roll Summer Cocktail Party in the lobby — can be obtained here.
Tickets for the Stone Pony SummerStage presentation of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes are $30 in advance or $35 at the door, and can be had right here.
Tickets for the August 8 Tribute to Trios concert at the Count Basie ($25-$49.50) can be reserved right here.

Hi Everyone,
Hood's grassroots support was so strong that his Fan of the Month submission has been upgraded to a full interview. That will be coming soon.
In the meantime, nominations are nice, but we need a story to make someone a FOTM. Write it up, send it in, and see your name or your nominee's name in lights! If we can have picture, too, that would be even better.

Not sure if anyone saw the very sad news regarding Willy DeVille. I know there are some Willy DeVille fans here including Johnny. Willy was already having a tough time when he announced earlier this year that he was postponing his 2009 tour schedule due to Hepatitis C treatment. Well, it was announced recently that during his Hepatatis tests, they found that he also has pancreatic cancer. Needless to say, things don't look so good for one of the greatest musicians and performers that I have been privileged to have followed for over 30 years now. Eddie Manion played in Willy's Mink DeVille Band about 20 years ago when he was on Juke's hiatus. If I remember correctly, when Eddie rejoined the Jukes, he was replaced by Mario Cruz. Mario had been a member of LaBamba and The Hubcaps and then Bruce's Tunnel of Love Express. So, let's raise a glass and keep a great musician in our thoughts while he fights a tough battle. If you don't have any Mink DeVille or Willy DeVille, I highly recommend Coup de Grace, Le Chat Bleu, Victory Mixture, and Backstreets of Desire.
