I was a young and up and coming executive ( so I thought) and used to actually enjoy that skummy- hectic hustle and bustle after getting off at the PA and in going home.
It was quite an adventure and sights -dropping quarters and having wood boards pull up ( to view my company revenue reports of course) at one of the "local attractions" attracting all the ladies lusting after my 3 piece suit ( guess it was for the money eh?).
What the heck like many of the "times goes by" memories there was a certain "suave de vie" or something under those neon lights.

There are many hotels in the Times Square area, all within easy walking distance of BB King's. For one, the Marriott Marquis is on Broadway and 46th St -- four blocks north of the club. Be forewarned, however. We are talking about Manhattan so be prepared for sticker shock. What some economy minded people do is stay at an inexpensive hotel in New Jersey and take the bus into Manhattan. The Port Authority Bus Terminal is right across the street from BB Kings. The bus terminal, by the way, is much improved from the "Little Calcutta Days."

I've never took notice of whether La Horns were on the Right or the Wrong Side of Town....except for one time, at Westbury, when they showed up - in the round- backing Miss Ross....
BB King's is a fab place to see The Jukes. You might try the Hampton Inn on W. 24th Street....a bit of a walk, or a short taxi ride.

Miss O the horns are on the other side in my old Beta tapes, when we went to VHS they got switched over. Something to do with the flow of the dynaflow or maybe the framistat. Now with this newfangled hi-def widescreen gizmojazz who knows WHAT we'll see up there. Maybe stuff we shouldn't.

I'm thinking of making the trip to NYC for the BB King's shows in March. Is it a good place to see a show? What's the neighborhood like? Any nice hotels close by, preferably walking distance? Never been to New York, so this seems like a good excuse.

Forever Young, I read your post and thought you were talking about an actual dancing hot dog. I was trying to picture that and understand why it would be so objectionable, and then I figured out that you meant hot dog, like a show off.
Got it.
I think they moved the horns over to Jeff's side at a show in Bristol several years ago, because the stage was so small and it would have just been too loud for Ricky Byrd to have the horns right on top of him. They tried it at sound check, but I don't remember whether they switched it back for the show or not. Does anybody remember the Bristol show at the Fleece in 2005?

IMHO the reason the Horn/brass section is on the right side of the stage is for ease of movement. If one is doing a solo or if all the brass moves to the front --they only have to go around Bobby, who can move. On the other side the keyboard takes up much more space and is stationary. In addition if the brass were to be behind Jeff a deeper stage is needed. Just my opinion.
On to topic (football)--McNab looked like hot dog dancing at the end of the game for the second straight week. Granted he was overjoyed as he should be--but as the leader he should be more controlled--not like a T.O. or D. Sanders when they went to excess.

MissOctober......I'm sure our musically trained boarders know the reasoning. Something to do with the drums and bass keeping the proper beat and the horns would drown both out for sure. Enlighten me!! JK or Joe B. would give us a sound answer.

Hi Everybody,
Happy New Year. It sounds like everyone who was at the NYE show really enjoyed it. I wish my wife and I could have attended. Hearing a Jukes show was a great way to end a rough year. I'm looking forward to 2009 being better.
In response to an earlier post, I was able to record it off the radio/web broadcast. The recording sounds good and I was glad to listen from home even if I couldn't be at the show.
I'll be happy to make copies of the show and share them with people. The only caveat is that due to a glitch of my recorder (it sometimes pauses and I can't figure out why) I missed a few songs. From the set list posted, it looks like I missed 'Nothing But A Heartache' and the songs in the first encore. If you don't mind that, send me an e-mail and I'll send out copies to 7 people and we can start sharing.
George

As for the QOTW -What kind of loser would ask such an inane question anyway?

They could have brought old man Ferrotte in and done as well in the second half.
But still- Go Eagles.

the nye show was far better than i could have ever imagined. so live and full of many of my personal favs. the drive to and from red bank was well worth it. i too was wondering if anyone had a recording of the show?, i would very much appreciate a copy and have no problem at all of paying for it. i still am coming down off the high that southside and all the jukes provided. perhaps it was the 47 jack and cokes i had throughout the day and night but i did not see or hear any info on 'ruff tuff III', anyone with a brain or info feel free to clue me in. i could not have imagined a better way to bring in the new years, thanks again to the south and the jukes. so until next time its back to work and saving my pennies for the next road trip or until you guys re visit cleveland.

Jukette,
Good idea to come to Amsterdam! You best check www.bookings.com to find yourself a nice hotel which still is affordable. You must know that the city is a bit of a mess lately, due to the construction of a (in the eyes of our silly Dutch guys) major underground line, and the reconstruction of Het Rijksmuseum (in which De Nachtwacht appears). But there's still a lot of nice things to see, like The Canals, The Red Light District, the Anne Frankhouse and the Waterlooplein. Depending on your interests there are so many museums and other points of interest.
I hope the Jukes return to our country...but there were years they didn't! Also October isn't always the month, as they played The Paradiso in November in 2004 and 2005!
Well....you're welcome at any time.
Be sure to get yourself a frikandel-special at FEBO in De Leidsestraat, just 'round the corner at The Paradiso....
See ya!

Looks like a full weekend in NYC in March!! I knew that a Sat. night show would appear as soon as i committed to a Sunday night show, only proving that I do, indeed, qualify for commitment......Hey, I'll take the padded room as long as it isn't soundproof and there's no straightjacket so I can dance! and after a relatively quiet Jan. and Feb., I think we'll be ready for the JUKES to revive, energize, and help us get rid of those winter-time in Jersey blues in March Already looking forward to Spring shows!

Hi Jukette,
What a great idea for a trip. You'll have a great time. I got a real kick out of the Heineken Experience, which is in the same neighborhood as the Paradiso (assuming there's a show again next year). I liked the Vincent Van Gogh museum more than the Rembrandts, too. And it seemed like every corner had a cute little bar with tables outside and good-looking blond men serving beer. And everyone speaks English, but it never hurts to pick up a few phrases -- in my experience, people are more willing to help you if you at least try to speak their language.
Have fun doing the planning! Drop me an e-mail if you have any questions.

yuk, 2009 - when you were born in 1959.
My best gift this year was from my husband - a tourist info book about Amsterdam.
My birthday is in October (his is too) and I just want to go on an adventure. No black balloons, over the hill gifts, and "girl friend, how old are you jokes".
I am hoping that my Jukes will again be there in October. In the meantime, I am turning down my thermostat, cooking dinner more and eating out less, returning all my beer cans, going an extra week or two without a dye job and hair cut, and will scrimp and save for this trip.
Any advice or helpful hints on where to stay, what to see, and whatever?

Gman - was telling a friend of mine the other day how much I really want to see the Wrestler since I may never get the chance again to see Marisa Tomei play a stripper.
He then told me, "Ya know, Bri, don't mean to rain on the parade, but I have it on good authority through a friend of mine that Marisa Tomei is gay."
My response - "And your point is....?"

For all us Asbury Park fans- the new movie The Wrestler with a very hot Joiesee gal Marisa Tomei (playing a stripper-yikes-yum-o) seems to have some very significant footage shot on the boardwalk where you can see the Convention Hall/Casino and a scene was shot in the old Carousel place too.
Not sure if any wrestling scenes were shot inside CH but that would have been a fantastic place as I am sure it house many matches back in the day.
With its "down and bluesy" style it would have seems a SS song would have been appropriate for this Jersey movie.
Well just an FYI.
